Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have confiscated 200 pieces of AK 47 ammunition, and two locally made shotguns from the homes of three persons in Potor near Kintampo.
The three; Kande Bawa, 48, Samed Rauf, 18, and Somaila Gyaboni, 50, were picked up over the weekend and are in the grips of the Regional Command.
[contextly_sidebar id=”hGivbBh7qYtb9DvoxHvosgblRg6Xlauz”]Speaking to Citi News, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, said the police had reason to believe the trio were part of plans to stir up a decade long chieftaincy tension in the area.
According to ASP Tawiah, the police “had some information that some people in the area have imported some arms and ammunition to actually escalate chieftaincy disputes in the area so police moved in.”
He also revealed that the police found the 2 AK 47s “in the room of a woman by name, Kande Bawa, and she claimed she did not know how the rifle and ammunition got to her room.”
The police found two single barrel shotguns and its cartridges in the rooms of the other two suspects and “the three have currently been transferred to the regional headquarters for further investigation,” ASP Tawiah said.
ASP Tawiah further assured that police in the area have intensified patrols in Potor to avert any possible clashes.
“We have intensified our patrol there and we have also put in place some intelligence or any member of the public who matters in that issue to inform the police immediately they observe something.”
