The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), has demanded that the government’s audit team in the ongoing validation exercise resumes the offsite validation of the remaining teacher documents pertaining to the payment of salary arrears and other allowances.
The CCT argued that this will speed up the validation process as the centralized validation exercise at the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has slowed down the process.
[contextly_sidebar id=”fjjBbRfhOoHkiDE2ugmfNkNunb25XQ99″]Teachers and the government had reached a deal in February to have the auditors to move to an offsite location to validate the documents of over 29,000 teachers to facilitate the payment of their 2013/14 salary arrears and allowances.
Making its case at a press briefing in Accra, the acting President of the CCT, Ali Awudu, explained that “the validation process is also currently extremely slow because they have been taken away from the offsite and stationed at the office of the fair wages and salaries commission and the process of validation is now extremely slow because they come and the go and the work is not fast.”
He noted further that, there were still over “83,000 teachers to be paid, and about 66,000 new forms and over 16,000 queried forms to be worked on.”
Mr. Awudi thus believes the immediate resumption of the offsite validation is required t[contextly_sidebar id=”fjjBbRfhOoHkiDE2ugmfNkNunb25XQ99”]o speed up the process.
“We are asking the offsite process to begin with immediate effect so that they can be validated for payment. Other than that, we the unions will never accept any other explanation that the stakeholders will give to us,” he stated.
