The suspended National Youth Organizer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Ernesto Yeboah, believes the party’s decision to suspend him is effectively an endorsement of corruption.
Mr. Yeboah was suspended after he publicly contradicted the party’s flagbearer, Ivor Greenstreet, on the matter and petitioning the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ, to investigate the President.
“I would wonder how any party with integrity would suspend its members for fighting against corruption,” he noted on Citi FM’s news analysis program, The Big Issue.
[contextly_sidebar id=”gdlsxPBWse6py4ZPoBTExVDAnth6PEEO”]Mr. Yeboah, who was suspended alongside the Party’s General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, lamented the fact that his suspension for “fighting against corruption” was coming from a party which brags about strong anti-corruption principles.
“For a party like the Convention People’s Party, founded on the ideas and principles of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to be suspending its members for fighting against corruption is something that appears shocking to the dismay of the entire world.”
In Mr. Yeboah’s view, their suspension from the party is an endorsement of corruption. “That’s the message that comes across”, he said.
The suspended Youth Organizer maintained that, “for a party to suspend its members simply because they have instructed CHRAJ to conduct an independent investigation in order to establish the veracity of the matter is something that beats our imagination.”
Greenstreet exhibiting double standards on corruption
Mr. Greenstreet was widely heralded for criticising the the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at its congress in 2014 for perceived corruption and mismanagement of the economy.
But Mr. Yeboah believes his Flagbearer has been exhibiting double standards following his stance on the Ford ‘gift’ given to the President.
“Ivor Greenstreet appeared on the IEA platform and this is a place where he has an opportunity to explain and take a strong stance against corruption. Unfortunately he ends up shooting the party in the head,” he said.
“Are you for corruption or you are against it. That is the number one question on everybody’s mind and that is what Ghanaians expected an answer to” Mr. Yeboah stated in response to his Flagbearers claims that he did not want to be forced to join persons accusing President Mahama of being corrupt.
