EPP Books Services, Ghana’s leading publisher and largest book distributor on Tuesday presented books worth GHȼ9,000.00 to three schools.
The presentation, which is in fulfillment of EPP Books Services “Stock your Library Project” saw Police Barracks Primary School and Tamale Main Seventh Day Adventist A and B Primary School and La Nkwantanang Madina Cluster of Schools being the first three beneficiary schools.
The Police Barracks Primary School and Tamale Main Seventh Day Adventist A and B Primary School received GHȼ2,000.00 worth of books each, while the La Nkwantanang Madina Cluster of Schools had GHȼ5,000.00 worth of books.
The “Stock your Library Project” is a five million reading initiative launched by the EPP Books Services in collaboration with the Ghana Library Association with the aim of donating and equipping various school libraries across the country with reading and informative books to promote reading amongst students.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the presentation, Mrs Millicent Brookman Amissah, the General Manager of EPP Books Services, said the presentation was in fulfilment of EPP’s commitment of distributing books to the various schools free of charge.
She called on other schools to apply as invitation is still opened saying: “The invitation is still open and interested schools should contact the Ghana Library Association,” she said.
Mr Samuel Bentil Aggrey, the Vice President of the Ghana Library Association, said in 2013, the Association saw it right to launch reading clubs in schools where children would be nurtured and reading habit cultivated amongst children.
He lauded EPP for their support and also lauded teachers for their interest and continuous support that is making reading a priority not only in the various schools but the country at large.
“The books will not just be in boxes, we will try as much as possible for its usage to be worthwhile,” he said.
Professor Perpetual Dadzie, President of the Ghana Library Association, expressed happiness about the presentation saying it was a dream comes true.
“Today I am very happy that EPP has honoured its pledge,” she said.
Prof Dadzie advised students to read extensively as that would help them to understand whatever they say and also take them far.
“You are in save hands especially with the teachers we have trained to mend the reading clubs,” she said.
Some beneficiary teachers and students who spoke to the Ghana News Agency thanked EPP and the Ghana Library Association for an initiative that aims at helping the vocabulary of students to be enriched.
