The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu in the Northern Region, A.B.A Fuseini, has called on the leadership of Parliament to haul fellow MP, Kennedy Agyepong, before the privileges committee, for a supposed sexist comments he made against the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.
The MP is of the view that the Assin Central lawmaker has consistently denigrated the dignity and image of the country’s law making body with his “despicable and appalling” comments.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ejZ9lVKsXQjjZgXSCIzvPvtjgS03RhE1″]In his latest comments, Mr. Agyepong alleged that Charlotte Osei, the first female to head the EC, was appointed after granting sexual favors and not on merit.
Women’s rights activists, government appointees and the general public, have condemned Mr. Agyepong’s comments.
The NDC MP for Sagnarigu also described Mr. Agyepong’s allegations as “vicious and malicious” whilst calling for sanctions to be brought against him.
According to Mr. Fuseini, Mr. Agyepong’s conduct is out of control and Parliament should have dragged him before the privileges committee without the prompting of the speaker.
“This House, without even the prompting of the speaker by some members of the House should see the conduct of this MP as worthy of being dragged to the privileges committee… This is a man whose misconduct has been one too many and I think it is time to call a spade a spade.”
“If we don’t take action on some of these aberrations, I am afraid some people may get fed up some day and take the law into their hands,” the MP warned.
Kennedy Agyepong may have evidence to back claims -MP
Meanwhile, the MP for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, has suggested that it would be inappropriate to condemn Kennedy Agyepong especially because he could have evidence to back his widely condemned remarks about Charlotte Osei.
“It is an opinion and as to the particulars and the evidence that is backing those assertions, I am not in a position to tell,” Mr. Ameyaw stated.
Speaking to Citi News’ Duke Opoku Mensah, he urged the EC chairperson to institute legal action against Kennedy Agyepong if she felt slighted by the comments.
“It is in the public domain so the person who is injured by those words should come forward and ask for evidence to substantiate otherwise they should take legal action. Outright condemnation as though he said it without any recourse of evidence, you may be making a mistake.”
