The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region is scheduled to take place on Saturday July 9, 2016 for this year’s general election.

The decision comes seven months after the constituency failed to run its own internal election alongside several other areas on Saturday November, 21, 2015.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sK9eBcVelFCucz1g9a1GyfKEF7qtn4so”]The primary delayed due to a protracted case against the incumbent Member of Parliament Abuga Pele.

His contenders are challenging his eligibility to contest the parliamentary primary while standing trial in the Ghana National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) scandal.

Speaking exclusively to Citi News, Upper East Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Donatus Akamugre said the National Executives of the party have now resolved the problem, paving way for the polls.

He indicated that 12,983 delegates will be casting their votes to elect a parliamentary candidate out of the three aspirants namely; incumbent Member of parliament Abuga Pele, Legal practitioner Rudolf Nsowine  Amega-Etego and Jonathan Nyaaba for the Chiana-Paga constituency  on Saturday.

A letter signed and issued on Monday June, 20, 2016 by the Party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to the Upper East Regional Executives of the party stated that the report of the vetting of parliamentary aspirants for the Chiana-Paga constituency has gone through and that further investigations and the results have been updated.

The primary according to information gathered, will be held at 48 electoral areas of the Kassena-Nankana West District.
