Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien is likely to leave Greek side Panathinaikos after just a season.

Despite some media reports that Essien has been released by the club, sources close to the player say that he is currently discussing terms surrounding the termination of his contract.

It is possible that an agreement will soon be reached and Essien will soon be free to join a new club.

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, Lyon midfielder is said to be exploring his options and he is open to offers. Essien played 13 times for Panathinaikos in the just-ended Greek league season.
