Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency of the Upper West region will today hold a mini congress to endorse a parliamentary candidate to represent the party in the area for the 2016 elections.
This follows a decision by the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the area, Dr. Boye Bandie, to step down from the race on health grounds.
A total of 520 delegates from 92 polling stations are expected to endorse or reject the candidature of one Elvis Banuemule Botaa.

Ali Gado, the constituency secretary of the party is optimistic the 26 year old will receive a resounding acclamation and subsequently snatch the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency seat from the National Democratic Congress candidate who doubles as the Majority Leader, Alban S. K. Bagbin.
Mr. Bagbin has been the incumbent MP for the area since 1992.
The NPP secretary told Citi News that “our candidate is coming under the same circumstances that the majority leader was selected in 1992. He is young, appealing, intelligent, academically competent and willing to serve his people.”
“We have tried but failed to unseat Bagbin with his age mates and we think the young man will pull a surprise,” Mr. Gado added.
When asked whether the delegates will turn out for the exercise, he noted that “our constitution allows for even 1/3 of the delegates to do the endorsement and so we don’t foresee any setback in this exercise.”
