A 20-year-old mason, David Kanponmah, has been arrested in connection with the recent Ashtown shooting incident that led to the death of a security man, Kwame Antwi.
The suspect is said to be an accomplice of Taribo West, a suspect in the shooting incident.
The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent (C/Supt) Mrs Deborah Addison-Campbell, told newsmen in Kumasi yesterday that Kanponmah, together with three other suspects now at large, allegedly stole a KIA Rio taxi, with registration number AS 8440-12, from Duase on May 10, this year.
She named the suspects at large as Nana Yaw, a welder at Suame Magazine, another identified only as Nuru and Mohammed Kenty.
Mrs Addison-Campbell said when Kanponmah was arrested, he allegedly admitted to committing the offence in his statement to the police and mentioned Taribo West as one of his accomplices.
She said on May 16, 2014, Antwi was shot in the head from close range by Bonty Killer, who was in the company of three other suspects, including Taribo West.
The police have declared all the suspects wanted and placed a bounty of GH¢2,000 on information that would lead to their arrest, particularly Bonty Killer.
Teenagers
In a related development, the police have arrested two teenagers for their alleged involvement in various armed robbery incidents in the metropolis.
They are aged 13 and 16.
The 16-year-old is an ex-convict who is said to have escaped from the Kpon Borstal Home in Tamale after serving two months of his six-month jail term for causing unlawful harm.
The two are said to be the accomplices of a known criminal, Baba Mussah, who has been on the police wanted list for a while now.
Mrs Addison-Campbell said as part of efforts at clamping down on armed robbery and other violent crimes in the metropolis, the division undertook some swoops and in the process arrested 33 suspects.
She said during screening, it was discovered that the 13-year-old boy was one of Mussah’s errand boys.
She said the two suspects had allegedly confessed to the police that they assisted Mussah to commit various robberies in areas such as the Asafo Interchange and Adum PZ.
Some of the implements they used for their operations were a pair of scissors and pistols.
