IGP calls for stronger Police and Customs collaboration

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan has called for a stronger co-operation between the Ghana Police Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

According to the IGP, both the police and the customs division have a common mandate of enforcing the law hence, the need to collaborate in order to enhance both sectors for the benefit of the nation.

He acknowledged that while there are a lot of areas of collaboration; the areas of difference at the lower level need the most attention and called for a conscious effort to address them.

The IGP made this call when the new Commissioner of Customs Division, Wallace Akondor paid a courtesy call on him.

Mr. Akondor on his part acknowledged the need for collaboration between the two sections while praising the already existing relationship between the police and the customs division.

The New Commissioner of Customs commended the Police for the recent assistance with their training facilities and also called for further collaboration between the two institutions in the area of human resource development.

Present during the visit were the Deputy Commissioner/Preventive, Mr. Frank Abban and Deputy Commissioner/Operations, Mr. Frederick Gavor and the Police Management Board.
