UGBS Launches Ghana Business Development Review (GBDR)

The Ghana Business Development Review (GBDR) report, the first of its kind was launched at the University of Ghana Business School Graduate building on Thursday, June 16, 2016.

Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, the Provost of the College of Humanities in his welcome speech, congratulated all the authors for excellently researching into the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy and providing compelling insights in the GBDR.

In the purpose of gathering address, the Dean of University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor said, the overall aim of the GBDR was to develop an evidenced-based report that tracks the performance of businesses in the Ghanaian economy. This he said will help advocate for policies that spur growth and performance of businesses to improve economic development.

Dr. Abdul-Gafaru Abdulai, a senior lecturer at UGBS, in delivering an overview of the fifteen chaptered report, outlined the sectors’ contents, structures, achievements and challenges, and the overall summary of various sectors. Among the sectors reviewed were Manufacturing, Energy, Oil and Gas, IT and Communication, Hospitality and Tourism among others. Dr. Abdulai classified these sectors as creating possibilities for businesses.

The chairman for the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana Professor Ernest Aryeetey commended the Business School for producing the GDBR. He said, the past twenty years has witnessed a massive improvement in data collection and analysis which has brought about effective decision making in both private and public sectors. Prof. Aryeetey mentioned that, the report will serve as a guide to potential investors to enable them understand the Ghanaian business environment.

Prof. Aryeetey then officially launched the report, and copies were distributed to all participating organisations.
