National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Volta Region have expressed joy over a loan facility contracted by government from Japan to commence work on the construction of a bridge across the Volta River.

Japan recently announced the restoration of its YEN loan portfolio to Ghana, with the approval of a proposal for the construction of a new bridge across the Volta River as part of the Eastern Corridor Road Development Project.

“Travelling on the Volta lake is a nightmare, children are rendered fatherless and motherless as a result of continuos’ death on the river. Alot more have also not recovered from the loss of their properties as a result of the frequent accidents on the Volta lake.”

In statement signed by the party’s Regional Communication Director, Kafui Agbleze, the party in the region extend condolence to families who have lost love ones and other valuables on the river and assured them of government’s resolve to ensure the safety of travelers on the water by improving transportation between the northern and southern part of the country.

“As a party in the region, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families who lost their love ones in the recent boat disasters on the lake. The bridge will not just reduce accident on the river but will also save time in doing business and further boost economic activities in the region”.

The statement thanked President Mahama for the gesture saying, “Your excellency Volta Region says Ayekoo, Continue your good work and may God almighty give you strength and long life”
