Final year students of Akpene International School at Juapong in the Volta Region, would have to wait another year to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), as a result of the failure of their headmaster to register them.

This is in spite of the students paying a GHc 150 registration fee.

[contextly_sidebar id=”JkPXYnldmilnu9mJrxdX9zpoGDFgiGeM”]Speaking to Citi News, an affected student indicated that they were provided with index numbers following their payment for registration, but when the students got to the center, they could not locate their numbers.

“Up till now, we have not written the paper and now we went to the police station to lodge a complaint with police. We want the police to arrest the man,” the student lamented.

A teacher who helped prepare the students for the BECE, Ernest Vormawor, revealed the matter has already been reported to the police but no action has been taken.

He also noted that some of the students have even been left frustrated by the ordeal.

“These kids, they were crying and a whole lot of things. Even some tried to commit suicide because they are looking after themselves,” he said.

The Proprietor of the school was at the police station when the students went to lodge a complaint with the police, and he offered to refund the registration monies but the students declined is offer.

According to Mr. Vormawor, the students “are not ready to accept their registration fees because they want to write the exams. Some of them from this time around, if they do not write the paper this year, I don’t think they can go back to the school again.”
