Some selected students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are to benefit from a scholarship package to study new technology in Wenzhou, China.

This was revealed when a delegation from the Wenzhou Municipal in China signed a Sister-city relation agreement with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Students from both Wenzhou University in China and KNUST in Ghana will also embark on exchange programs as part of the agreement.

Among the benefits of the agreement to the insititution is the building of  multi-storey car park to be built in the Kumasi Metropolis. The initiative is to help ease heavy vehicular traffic in the Kumasi City.

The relationship between Kumasi and Wenzhou will see a boost in trade and business capabilities, as well as in education and technology in both cities.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executiver, Kojo Bonsu lauded the partnership and said it would go a long way to help the growth of businesses and the improvement of infrastructure in the Kumasi city.

“About a couple of months ago, we went to Wenzhou in China. A letter of intent was signed for us to be able to have a sister-city relationship with Wenzhou. By the Chinese procedure, you don’t go through signing the agreement, but you get a letter of intent then the actual agreement. Within two months they are here to fortify the relationship and make it stronger.”

Mr Bonsu was optimistic about the returns of the Partnership and called on the people of Kumasi to embrace the partnership between the two cities adding that it would contribute greatly to the socio-economic growth of the Kumasi Metropolis and Ghana as a whole.

Chairman of the Wenzhou Municipal Government, Mr. Xu Liyi indicated “that more and more Wenzhou business men are investing and doing business in Kumasi because of its business attraction,” pledging thus that the cooperation will be targeted at improving the manufacturing and technology sectors of both cities.
