The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Zakariah, brought this to the fore at a Town Hall Meeting in Yendi.

He said the meeting was in line with the World Bank’s Urban Development Grant which required district assembly’s to showcase their social accountability auditing agenda.

He chronicled the abundant projects the assembly and its development partners have since 2009 executed in the Municipality to improve the residents’ welfare.

Alhaji Issah Zakariah emphasized the need for residents of Yendi to safeguard the relative peace there to attract investors.

He pleaded with politicians to conduct their campaigns devoid of intemperate language and character assassination.

He commended law enforcement agencies for stabilizing the area.

Education

Alhaji Issah Zakariah said education remained the assembly’s major priority.

He mentioned Nakpachei, Kamshegu and Kalsani among several satellite communities which have benefited from 3-unit classroom blocks and their ancillary facilities. The ancillary facilities include teachers’ bungalows and toilet facilities.

Health/Sanitation

Alhaji Issah Zakariah is elated that the assembly built CHPS compounds in some selected communities including Kulkpang, Kpanjamba, Yimahegu, Kamshegu Sakpe, Kpukpuno and Kofoyili.

He said two butcher houses have been built at the Yendi market in addition to an ongoing abattoir project.

Alhaji Issah Zakariah added that, 10 newly built toilet facilities under the Global Community initiative are ready for inauguration and handing over to the beneficiary communities.

This in his estimation, will reduce open defecation which the assembly is working against.

He pointed to Kuga fong and several communities which have benefited from the rural electrification project. He however admitted clean water supply remained the assembly’s major challenge.

Alhaji Issah Zakariah nevertheless, trumpeted that his administration constructed some boreholes in deprived communities.

As a municipality credited for yam production, feeder roads have been constructed linking farming communities to major towns, the Yendi MCE stated.

The Municipal Planning Officer, the Budget Officer and Internal Auditor and other departmental heads, accounted for the assembly’s income and expenditure matching the completed and ongoing projects.
