Parliament’s Government Assurance Committee cannot summon managers of the capital over the recent floods in the city.
According to the Chairman of the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra the committee has no power to drag before it city authorities over the recent floods in the Accra.
Pressure has been mounting on the Committee to invite managers of the city over the flooding which has rendered many homeless.

He said it is the duty of the Local Government Committee to do such things.
“Government assurance committee holds ministers responsible not city authorities. For flooding in Accra for instance, it is the Local Government Committee who are supposed to hold the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing and city authorities accountable for policies and resources that have been committed to them.”
“Government assurances committee hold ministers responsible when assurances are given on the floor of the House and this assurances are taken through to make sure they are fulfilled if they are not fulfilled then we find reasons why they are not fulfilled,” he added.
