Drivers at the GOIL fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area say some patrons of ‘trotros’ who used to board vehicles from the area are somewhat scared, following the June 3 flood and fire disaster, particularly when it rains.

The drivers say business at the area has not returned to normalcy, almost a year after the disaster.

A commercial [Trotro] driver told Citi News’ Eugenia Tekorang that some passengers who use to board cars there have stopped doing so since the rainy season.

[contextly_sidebar id=”M4E5a0Xgq3tQ3AXCYVISGjDaNjIBYuww”]“Business is not good for us; because of the disaster that occurred here, the passengers are afraid to come here. Since the rainy season took off, the situation has worsened…, ” a driver lamented.

The disaster claimed some 152 lives and left many injured.

Burnt cars ‘traumatize’ survivors

State institutions that were mandated to investigate the disaster had recklessly watched and allowed the barricaded area open to public viewing, traumatizing survivors and persons who lost relatives there.

But few days to the one year commemoration of the June 3 disaster anniversary, authorities have fenced the area again.

The cars that were burnt are still at the site almost a year after government set up a committee to investigate the disaster.
