The Ghana Gas Company has in a strongly worded statement, condemned the activities of the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP).

“Ghana Gas condemn the activities of groupings like yours which only to denigrate organizations through the packaging of falsehood without bothering to establish contact to discuss the issues that are of concern to you,” said a statement from Ghana Gas.

This was in response to a report put out by ACEP on May 20, 2014 raising red flags about some specific dealings the Ghana Gas Company was purportedly engaged in with some international oil companies.

The report titled: ‘Ghana Gas, Questionable deals and the national interest, how Ghana’s quest for energy security faces imminent danger’ questioned the basis on which some three agreements were signed by the Ghana Gas Company.

It also called for the reconstitution of the Ghana Gas Company Board because according to them, the membership of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr Valerie Sawyer on the Company’s board is wrong.

ACEP’s report also disclosed that there was lack of transparency in the activities of Ghana Gas Company and accused government of failing to act decisively on matters of the gas development in Ghana.

In a statement however, the Corporate Communications Director of the Ghana Gas Company, Alfred Ogbamey accused ACEP of circulating a conjectured report full of “misinformation, inaccurate and false information.”

He said it is regrettable that “despite our increasing and open communication policy…the center could put together what was supposed to be a report on the operations and activities of Ghana Gas without input from Ghana Gas.”
