The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, has ordered for work to stop on the construction of the Makola Mall in Accra.

This follows the death of a trader who died on the spot when a metal from the top floor of the building accidentally fell on her.

[contextly_sidebar id=”vODUOrtQJkpnZMFBI9vp1xoBnvTLMYXK”] Oko Vanderpuye after visiting the site on Monday, said the suspension of work will give them time to review safety measures around the construction site.

“We have ordered the closure and suspension of the construction immediately so that it will give us time to review the safety measures around the construction site and to ensure that we will not lose in any life as a result of the construction.”

He said “until we are satisfied that the contractor and all the parties involved are ensuring safety for the public, we will not resume work for the site.”

The deceased was said to be hawking around the site when a metal railing fell on her, killing her instantly.

The metal was said to have been accidently dropped by one of the workers.
