The Minister for Transport Mr. Fifi Kwetey has called on Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to supply high quality fuel to Ghanaians to help reduce carbon emissions.

According to him, the ministry is working vigorously to cut down on carbon emissions by encouraging the use of efficient fuel and low carbon emitting vehicles.

The minister, who was a guest speaker at the launch of the Vivo Energy Ghana Visa enabled fuel card, called ‘Ezypass’ said the launch comes at a very appropriate time when Ghana is gradually moving to a cashless economy.

He stated that the new ‘Ezypass’ would therefore play an important role in responding to the call by government for Ghanaians to use electronic payment systems in business transactions.

“The Ezypass card will ease the stress of carrying money around. Indeed. Let us all use this innovative product as Ghana moves to a cashless economy,”he said.

Vivo Energy Ghana is the company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants.

The new ‘Shell Ezypass’, which comes in both Super and Diesel forms, is designed to last longer at no extra cost, while improving fuel efficiency for users.

Speaking to Citi Business News at the launch, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Faulkner, said the ‘Shell Ezypass’ is convenient to use as it is made in Visa form to suit all payment methods.

‘‘One of the benefits of the shell card is that it is convenient, you don’t have to carry cash. It comes with a one percent discount when goods are purchased from shell. This card is a visa card so it means you can use the card to shop online. That is how easy and convenient it is,’’ he said.

On his part, the Minister of Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah extoled Vivo Energy Ghana for the initiative and urged them to keep up the good work.
