The price of gari, a product made from cassava, has increased in the Ghanaian market by 16 percent.

The product is currently being sold at GHc6.20 per olonka [the container used n measuring the product].

The increase in the price of gari is believed to have been caused by the consistent increase in the price of cassava in the last few weeks.

Checks by Esoko Ghana revealed that the price of tomato has gone up by 3 percent in the third week of May and is being sold at GHc13.40 per medium size tomato tin.

Soybeans also recorded a 2 percent increase to close the week at GHc 6.10 per “olonka.”

According to Esoko Ghana, prices of groundnut and millet also increased by a percentage point each.

They closed the week at GHc 13.90 and GHc5.50 per “olonka” respectively.

With rice (local) and Yam (pona), they both recorded 5 percent drop in their prices.

They closed the week at GHc 7.60 and GHc6.40 per “olonka” and “medium size tuber” respectively.

Cassava (fresh) and Cowpea also dropped by percentage point each.

They both closed the week at GHc 7.60 and GHc9.00 per “3-4 tubers” and “olonka” respectively.

The price for an “olonka” of maize on the various markets remained the same.

Takoradi

In Takoradi in the Western Region, a “medium size tomato tin” full of fresh tomatoes went up by 9 percent in Takoradi to close the week at GHc 25.00 with Kumasi also gaining 3 percent to close the week at GHc 20.00.
