The Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is urging the party’s followers to honour the murdered Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adams Mahama, by working to secure victory in the November polls.

Paying tribute to mark the first anniversary of the slayed former Regional Chairman today (Friday), the NPP Flagbearer said the only “way in which we will not let his death be in vain is to rededicate ourselves to the struggle ahead,  that is the struggle to redeem our country and return her to the path of progress and prosperity. When we have done this and put the smiles back on the faces of all the poor and needy people that Adams took care of, only then would we have truly ‘avenged’ his death.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”aP4Mav75xHWgLiezoBMRzzKO4MIqQbNC”]According to him, the NPP lost a gem, a party man whose adherence to the principles of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition cannot be doubted.

“It was a day the NPP lost a true party man, and a noble adherent of its principles and values. It is not often that the party takes someone to its collective heart so wholeheartedly, but the late Adams Mahama managed to charm most people in the party.

“Adams was passionate about Ghana. He was convinced that the NPP will capture power in 2016 in order to improve the lives of the people of Ghana. It is up to us to make sure that Adams did not die in vain,” Nana Akufo-Addo stated.

According to Nana Addo, the process of seeking justice is still ongoing in the courts; and so the family of the late Regional Chairman must “continue to trust the judicial system to bring a just resolution to the matter.”

“On this day, and on behalf of the entire membership of the NPP, we pledge to continue to work to keep the Adams’ flame alight. To his widow, children, and family, we pray for Allah’s continued strength for them. May the Almighty Allah continue to bless Adams Mahama and grant him eternal rest,” the NPP flagbearer prayed.

Alhaji Adams died after being bathed with acid last year. Gregory Afoko, the younger brother of the suspended NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko, and another suspect, are currently on trial for allegedly killing the former Upper East Regional Chairman.
