The Ghana Education Service (GES), is to recruit over 2,000 teachers to teach Mathematics and Science in Senior High Schools.

GES announced that it has been granted the financial clearance by the Ministry of Finance to recruit 2,400 teachers who will teach Mathematics and Science in senior high schools.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the GES, Rev Jonathan Bettey, it said 5,000 applicants have been shortlisted to undergo some processes that will be used to recruit the qualified teachers.

“There was an advert in the daily newspapers in March this year asking qualified applicants with minimum qualifications of first degree in Mathematics, Science and Education to apply. In all, about 18,000 applications were received and 5,000 qualified applicants have been shortlisted,” the statement said.

[contextly_sidebar id=”NGufnu3u5s7PnCyv8xpt6qSOxcw5Sa6m”]As part of the process, GES says it has contracted the West African Examinations Council (WAEC)  “to conduct a selection test for the shortlisted applicants in English, Mathematics and Science. A fee has been charged which will subsequently be transferred to WAEC for the conduct of the examination.”

“Successful applicants must be prepared to accept posting to places where their services will be most needed.”

GES has therefore provided a list of centers where shortlisted applicants will be expected to write the selection test on Saturday, 21st May, 2016 at the following WAEC Centers.

The list is provided below:

REGION CENTRE
Greater Accra and Eastern Tema WAEC Centre
Volta Ho WAEC Centre
Ashanti Kumasi WAEC Centre
Brong-Ahafo Sunyani SHS
Central Mfantsipim SHS
Western Adisadel SHS
Northern , Upper East, and Upper West Tamale WAEC Centre

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education gave the GES the approval to advertise vacancies for teachers for all second-cycle institutions as well as basic schools across the country. This came after head teachers across the country have been appealing to government to lift the embargo placed on public sector employment since according to them a shortage in teaching staff is hampering academic performance in schools.
