For close to two hours Ashaiman was almost at a standstill when the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo visited the constituency.

The visit, which was supposed to be an unannounced one, saw hundreds of people rush towards the convoy to catch a glimpse of the presidential candidate.

Most of the people who could not hide their joy were heard chanting and singing songs composed for the NPP flagbearer.

Some were chanting “Nana you are our last hope, Nana come and save Ghanaians, Nana we are jobless” among others.

Nana Addo made his first stop at Old Tulaku in Ashaiman, where he interacted with members of the public and some meat sellers in the area.

Nana Addo appealed to them to vote for him and his parliamentary candidate in order to ensure a better Ghana for all.

Nana Addo further addressed some artisans at a place known as ‘fitter line’.

He assured them of the preparedness of an Akufo-Addo government to ensure that artisans are given further training to enhance their work.

“I was in Germany three years ago and there is a technology where artisans are further given special training by industries to enhance their work. Should I be given the nod as a president, I will implement same programme here to add value to what you do here” he promised.

He noted that he is seeking the high office of President not for any special group or groups of persons or ethnic groups but for Ghanaians.

“I am seeking to become a president not for any specific group of persons but for Ghana. I am for Ghana and Ghana must work again” he stressed.

He appealed to the people of Ashaiman to vote for him as President on November 7.

“I appeal to you to give me your thumbs come November 7th. This year Ashaiman must speak and rise and vote massively for the NPP for a better Ghana.”

The NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for the Constituency, Alhaji Yakubu Labarran Barry, who addressed the people, also noted that although Ashaiman is the third largest ‘world bank’ of the NDC in terms of vote, he is working hard to defeat that.

“As we all know, Ashaiman is the third largest constituency for the NDC but I am telling you that, that theory will be defeated in this year’s elections”

He alleged that most of the votes that are recorded in the constituency by the NDC do not represent the numbers, and that he would ensure that this year’s election captures the true reflection of votes cast.

He promised to invest two million dollars into business for the people of Ashaiman to address the high rate of unemployment in the constituency.

Some of the sympathizers who spoke to Citi News noted that it is about time the NPP is given the chance to lead the country, since life has become generally unbearable under the NDC government.
