A three-storey building under construction at Berekuso in the Eastern Region has collapsed trapping some construction workers.
A teacher at the Berekuso Basic School, Andrews Osei Bonsu, told Citi News that he heard a loud noise whiles he was teaching only to find out that part of the building had collapsed.
He quoted a food vendor close to the building as saying that, two workers she was about to sell food to have been trapped in the building.
“The lady said that she saw at least two people who have been trapped. But I am told there were other people working on top of the building so we currently don’t have the exact number of those trapped under there aside the two.”
He said other workers who were not very close to the building quickly fled the site to safety.
Rescuers are yet to move to the scene to assist the victims.
It is unclear yet what may have caused the collapse, but recent incidences of collapsed buildings in the country have largely been blamed on architectural flaws and disregard for safety.
