GRIDCo to shed 300 MW of power today

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is expected to shed about 300 Megawatts (MW) of power today [Wednesday].

[contextly_sidebar id=”9WxR5pxz9dbHtkrEaQQHfY1WSF1DgweK”]Sources at GRIDCo say Accra is expected to shed 120 MW, Tema 60 MW, Eastern 30MW, Western 50MW, Central 20M, Volta 20MW.

The megawatts of power expected to be shed in the Ashanti Region remains unclear.

In Accra, more than 20 areas will have their lights go off from 4pm but it is not clear yet when power will return.

Load Management in Achimota

GRIDCo further explained that “following the putting off of Mallam bsp by Gridco this morning at 08:16hrs and the customers being off up till this time, ST2 instructed control to drop some load at the Achimota bsp and the 3rd bsp (Bulk Supply Point) to the tune of 120MW so that Mallam load could be restored.

By virtue of the development, the following feeders have been put off;

– Teshie 4. 16:43hrs
– Akai Clinic. 17:25hrs
– Commercial Inv. 17:02hrs
– Old Spintex. 16:43hrs
– Ogbojo. 16:41hrs
– H10. 16:54hrs
– Japan Motors. 17:02hrs
– Agbogba 17:22hrs
– Dodowa. 17:22hrs
– Coffee Shop. 17:25hrs
– Kwabenya V. 18:00hrs

Ghana for the past years has been experiencing erratic power supply which has led to the collapse of businesses.

Government in a bid to alleviate the effects of the crisis, imported two power ships to augment the country’s current power supply.

It also imported some plants from Ameri Power in that regard.
