As part efforts to provide care and support to the needy and destitute in the Ashaiman Constituency, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ashaiman, has instituted a social intervention programme to alleviate poverty among the constituents.

The social intervention programme dubbed Henry Norgbey Leadership of Care and Concern over the years, has contributed immensely to the upkeep and wellbeing of many in the constituency.

Last Sunday, Mr. Norgbey as part of his social intervention programme provided support for about three hundred widows in Ashaiman.

The programme, which is the first to be organized in the constituency, is aimed at providing support to the needy as well as show concern to the destitute.

Mr. Norgbey, who is seeking to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, assured the widows that when given the nod to lead the constituency as MP, he will roll out more social intervention programmes to help address the needs of women.

He said Ashaiman being one of the most populous metropolis in the country has enormous business opportunities and would ensure that most women are given professional skills to enable them support themselves and their families.

“As we all know, Ashaiman is one of the most populous constituencies in Ghana and this means there are several business opportunities here so my administration will not hesitate to provide you with skills that can earn you a living. I will ensure that women in this constituency receive the necessary training to enable them to be self-sufficient” he stated.

Mr. Norgbey urged the widows to ensure that they encourage their wards to eschew any form of violence that will jeopardize their future.

He assured them of continuous support to the Widows Association in Ashaiman, to enable them contribute their quota towards the development of their families.

One of the widows, Hajia Mamunatu Abdulaziz, was full of praise for Mr. Norgbey, saying the donation will go a long way to help them.

She said “I am really happy with the donation from Mr. Norgbey because life has not been easy for me since my husband passed away”.

Another widow, Daavi Peace Adiglo, also noted that the donation is the first of its kind to members of the association and was grateful to Mr. Norgbey.

She appealed to Mr. Norgbey to continue his support for the association as most of their members have huge families who largely depend on them.

Each widow received a bag of rice, a bottle of vegetable oil and an undisclosed amount of money.

The Ashaiman Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Omar Shadad Jallo, called on the leadership of the widows association to open their doors to allow more members to join since widows form essential part of the society.
