The Upper East Regional branch of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has charged various Municipal and District Assemblies to strictly enforce their sanitation by-laws to help address the sanitation problems in the region.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary of Zoomlion in Bolgatanga on the theme; “Driving Impactful Waste Management in Ghana and Beyond”, the Upper East Regional General Manager of Zoomlion, Mr. John Sackey, bemoaned the poor attitude of the general public towards sanitation.
He said the problems include indiscriminate littering of streets, open defecation, dumping of refuse into drains and burning of communal containers.
Mr. Sackey who admonished the general public to ensure cleaner environment by actively participating in the National Sanitation Day was optimistic that, strict enforcement of sanitation by-laws will deter recalcitrant persons from deliberately destroying the environment.
The Upper East Regional Zoomlion Ghana limited has a core staff of 104 and project staff of 2,617 with 62 vehicles serving the entire 13 municipalities and districts in the region.
Mr. Sackey said, his outfit is committed to delivering the best service quality with their new fleet of trucks.
He urged the general public to work towards sustainable environmental practices.
Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Robert B. Kuganab-lem implored residents to desist from bad environmental practices to aid in the elimination of diseases.
Dr. Kugnab-lem expressed government’s commitment to augment Zoomlion efforts through the National Sanitation Day.
Activities marking the anniversary includes; tree planting at Tongo , Fun games at Paga and a climax church service at Navrongo Pentecost church.
