The Ghana Police Service is urging calm as applicants seeking employment in the service crowded at some Ghana Commercial Bank branches in Accra on Wednesday, in their attempt to pay for electronic application vouchers which are on sale.
The applicants had to endure long hours of waiting since the system for selling the forms had gone down.The Police Service this year decided to resort to an electronic means in receiving applications as part of efforts to reduce the involvement of middlemen.
Previous police recruitment exercises have been marred by scams, with a recent one leading to the interdiction of the Director General of Human Resource, COP Patrick Timbillah in 2015. The new system however encountered some technical challenges as applicants had difficulties accessing the forms online.

It however advised applicants from various regions not to travel to Accra or the cities to purchase application forms, since they are available in all GCB Bank branches across the country.
The Police Service, ahead of the recruitment process, advised applicants to be cautious of fraudsters.
“The Police Administration wishes to inform the general public, especially persons desirous of joining the Police Service, that all is set for the Police to commence recruitment into the Service for the year 2016,” statement from the Service said.
Police hit with unresolved recruitment scams
A number of recruitment scams have hit the Police service in recent times. In one of the scams, some persons including a Director General of Human Resource and Administration at the Police Service, COP Patrick Timbillah were arrested.
COP Patrick Timbilla was subsequently interdicted while a committee was formed to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, months after the investigations, the report is yet to be made public.
