4 dead, 41 others injured in accident in Tema

Four people have been confirmed dead this morning after a Metro Mass Transit bus collided with a tipper truck around Miotso, near Tema.

41 other passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries have been sent to the Tema General Hospital.

The Public Relations Officer at the Tema Regional Police Command, ASP Juliana Obeng speaking to Citi News said the accident occurred around 4:30am on Monday morning.

[contextly_sidebar id=”VmGaActODmCDEpm7KYAsN1L0EF8atwuS”]She noted that both vehicles were from the Aflao stretch and heading towards Tema.

“On board the Metro Mass bus were 45 people out of which four have been confirmed dead and presently the bodies have been deposited at the Police hospital morgue and 41 others who sustained various degrees of injuries are at admission at the Tema General hospital.”

Earlier, Ernest Awinimi, Manager at the Emergency Unit of the hospital told Citi News that the injured persons were rushed to the facility at 6am.

He said the unit is the best in handling traumatic situations in the country and is doing its best to treat the seriously injured patients.

Mr. Awinimi added that they have not yet recorded any casualty since the injured persons were brought in.

Meanwhile, some residents have thronged the hospital to check up on their relatives who were on the bus.
