The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has dismissed allegations that it is inciting violence to mar the limited voters’ registration exercise.

There have been reports of violence at some registration centers in the region that resulted in the destruction of property and some registration equipment.

But speaking to Citi News, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Sam Pyne, said all the allegations of violence against the party should be disregarded.

According to him, aside the fracas between the Member of Parliament for the Manhyia North Constituency, Collins Owusu Amankwa and Chairman Wontumi, the NPP has not been linked to any incident.

“That is a palpable falsehood and illogical. When have we ever been involved in any violent act apart from this allegation of an assault? Apart from that, has there been any instance?” he asked.

Mr. Pyne also noted that the recent tensions had not affected the work of their constituency officers and other monitoring agents who are still effectively monitoring the limited registration exercise.

“…It never affected anything. When the second phase started yesterday [Wednesday], most of us were on the field monitoring and doing the work. The constituency officers and other persons that have been assigned particular jobs were doing it alright so it never affected them.”
