The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG), has threatened to drag the Electoral Commission to court if it does not extend the duration of the limited registration exercise to enable more students on university campuses across the country to register.
According to USAG, an extension will prevent students from being disenfranchised.

USAG has already indicated that less than 10 percent of eligible student voters have been able to register, hence their call for the extension.
Speaking to Citi News, President of USAG, Henry Nkosuo Boakye said USAG may be forced to take the EC to court if the situation persists.
“We would follow the procedures as clearly enshrined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana and seek our reliefs. We will head to court. We will file a petition. We will file a petition and make the EC know that they are there to serve our interests and nothing more,” he stated.
EC disenfranchising eligible students
USAG has accused the EC of essentially disenfranchising eligible students with its handling of the registration exercise on the various campuses.
Their comments were echoed by presidential running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who said more registration centers are required on the various campuses.
“…And so if we don’t want to disenfranchise people, we need to bring in adequate or a few more registration centers to cater for the population and I think this is what has been missed… I would like to encourage the Electoral Commission to do what is right, to bring in a few more registration centers on Legon campus and anywhere else where this sort of go-slow is pertaining.”
