President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the newly commissioned Cape Coast Stadium will open up the region as a vibrant hub for sports especially football.

An elated Nyantakyi admitted that the quality of the 16,000 capacity stadium presents the FA the opportunity to host national team matches as well as league games at the venue.

The edifice was constructed by Chinese firm Jiang Xi Corporation and was fully financed by the Chinese government.

The stadium features an eight lane running track, two basketball courts, a tennis court, a gymnasium,a hall for table tennis as well as a housing facility for athletes.

Present at the handing over ceremony alongside President John Dramani Mahama, the GFA boss admitted that the facility arrives at a time when the nation is facing a deficit in sports infrastructure and thus will go a long way in aiding to develop talent.

“We will be playing games here and fortunately in Cape Coast we have a number of good hotels and that makes it possible for us to play qualifiers.

“The FA may consider it as a venue for some of our matches like the FA Cup and fortunately we have a Premiership club in Ebusua Dwarfs in the region and they should be able to take advantage.

“It has come at the right time to help us develop football,”he told the press after the handing over event.
