President John Mahama has dissolved the governing council of the Wa Polytechnic in the Upper West region.
The dissolution which takes immediate effect follows a protracted conflict between some staff of the school and the rector of the institution, over the extension of his tenure.
[contextly_sidebar id=”IxQdqaBQrMWL8eXfguQKkWAUfuaVm2Rs”]According to the President, a three member interim management committee will now oversee the administrative work at the polytechnic.
“I have taken notice of the current crises that has overwhelmed the Wa polytechnic which has led to an almost total paralysis of governance in that institution. For two years or more graduating students have not received their certificate, all projects on the wa poly campus have come to a stand still and all are engaged in a free for all litigation that threatens the survival of that institution.”
President Mahama made the announcement while speaking at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region where he inaugurated a new Hospitality Catering and an Integrated Management facility.
The President over the week has been inaugurating facilities in the region as part of his “Accounting to the People” tour.
