The Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), Egypt Kudoto, has called the bluff of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the National Peace Council, over their call on former Transport Minister, Dzif Attivor, to apologize for making comments deemed ethnocentric.
The former Minister is on record to have pleaded with members of the NDC at Ketu South in the Volta Region, not to vote for the opposition NPP else she and the current Minister of Transport, Fiifi Kwetey, who are all from the region, will be jailed under an NPP government.
She also asked the NDC supporters to take into consideration the works of Mr. Rawlings and vote massively for the NDC in the upcoming polls.
Her ethnocentric comments triggered widespread condemnation from some political actors including former President Jerry Rawlings.
But the Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Egypt Kudoto, has mounted a rather spirited defence of Mrs. Attivor saying she owes nobody an apology.
According to Mr. Kudoto, also a Special Assistant to Dzifa Attivor, her comments were justified because he feels the United Party (UP) ideals that gave birth to the NPP were known for witch hunting ewe politicians.
“What should she apologize for? For reminding the people that anytime the UP tradition is in office, this is their character, this is their approach… The nature and the approach and the politics of the UP tradition since independence is not one we should encourage.”
He also suggested that the backlash from some independent groups and civil society organizations were hypocritical.
Mr. Kudoto maintained that there was some bias against the NDC and said no one would have criticized such comments if they came from the NPP.
“Once it is about the NDC, that one the social organizations, the independent groupings and all of that, they have their voices but if it is about the NPP, they will let it be.”
