The District Chief Executive of Keta Municipality, Sylvester Tonyava, has revealed that nearly two-thirds of Keta has been overtaken by the sea.
Scores of residents were affected by tidal waves in Fuveme in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region compelling them to flee from their homes.
The waves, which started displacing residents in the late hours of Sunday, were said to have carried away livestock and other belongings of residents.

Over five hundred people were affected and hundred and fifty houses destroyed.
‘’More than two third of Keta has gone into the sea and what is left now is just skeletal because Keta once upon a time served as the capital of the southern province here and it was a busy commercial center but today it’s nothing to write home about.’’
The DCE added that human activities along the coast can be blamed for the situation. He pleaded with government to protect Keta instead of asking the residents to relocate.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is currently in Keta to assess the damage before they can support the victims.
