Police in the Northern Region have beefed up security in Sayuoo, a community near Napkanduri, after clashes in the area claimed one life on Sunday.

One other person, a police officer, also sustained injuries following fighting between two rival Bimoba families, the Jamoung and the Jafouk, who have been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told Citi News the fighting resulted from the chiefs of the two rival clans who refused to pay homage to each other at a pogramme.

The two sides said they were not going to be party to the programme so yesterday [Sunday] that sparked a heated clash and one person is confirmed dead,” he explained.

ASP Tetter further assured that the police will remain on the ground until calm is fully restored.

“We have deployed men on the ground so as we speak now, they are on the ground trying to ensure that the operation does not escalate. We have deployed our operational men so the men have been asked to take care of the situation at the village.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Security Council is expected to meet over the recurring violence.
