The African Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) has demanded for a total technical audit of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.
ACEP says the move if carried out will enhance gas supply to Ghana Gas Company.
Deadline for routine maintenance works which began on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah about a month has been postponed several times over operational and technical challenges.
[contextly_sidebar id=”tTUNbPo2la9cYJqbSRUCp2za6Qza4Q0q”]According to Tullow Ghana Limited, engineers postponed the completion date due to a damaged turret bearing on the vessel.
The company further explained that the vessel has been placed on “heading control” through the use of tugs which minimize vessel movement around the bearing.
But speaking to Citi Business News, the Head of Policy Unit at ACEP, Ishmael Ackah stated that the shutdown is beginning to have a negative impact on the power sector, hence the need for a comprehensive audit of the facility.
“The impact is that Ameri uses gas so when the FPSO is down, Ameri is down. This is affecting the supply of electricity and it’s getting serious”, he said.
He maintained that the frequent break down of the facility is an indication that the time has come for a total auditing to halt further disruption of the facility.
“We have been advocating for a total technical audit of the FPSO, we shouldn’t wait till we identify a challenge before we solve it”, he said.
He explained that a total auditing will enable engineers to address the challenge holistically.
Mr. Ackah stated that ACEP has already made the recommendation to the operators but no action has been taken.
