Medical doctors in the public sector have abandoned their intended mass resignation over the lack of proper conditions of service following a final agreement with government.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) in 2015 threatened that its members will resign en bloc should government fail to produce a codified document containing their conditions of service.

Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Justice Yankson, said a deal has been reached with the provision of the document containing their conditions of service.
“We are basically coming to some arrangement as employer and employees and once that agreement has been signed and implementation has even started to an extent, we can only cooperate to ensure that the full details are properly implemented. So for now the infighting, disagreement between employer and employees has been put to rest at least for now. We are all committed to ensuring that the nitty gritties are really sorted out so that what is required of the employer is done by the employer and what is required of the employees we will also do our bit,” he added.
Background
Doctors in the public sector embarked on a nationwide strike which lasted for three weeks in 2015 to demand codified conditions of service.
The strike also led to the suspension of Out-Patients Department services and emergency care.
Government under intense pressure persuaded the doctors to call off the strike and return to the negotiation table for further deliberations which they obliged.
However, over seven months after calling off the strike, government and the doctors are yet to reach an agreement on the demands.
