The National Commission for  Civic Education (NCCE) will be looking to play their part in ensuring Ghana’s reputation for peaceful elections is maintained by engaging citizens, the youth especially, in anti-violence messages.

There have been widespread criticisms against the NCCE for failing to run sensitisation programmes on some electoral activities.

Speaking to Citi News, the Communications Officer for the Commission, Joyce Efuttu, said the commission this year will pay special attention to the youth with their messages on electoral violence.

She explained that the youth are normally used as conduits to forment trouble during elections hence their strategy.

“Most of the time it is the youth that people use to ferment trouble and create violence so we will meet with them and discuss the need to ensure that we have peaceful elections. We will also secure their commitment towards ensuring that we have peaceful elections across the country.”

Mrs. Efuttu further preached calm ahead of the elections in November advising, “Everybody should be peaceful. We should not encourage hate speech, insults and attacks because that will not do us any good as a country.”
