The Executive Council of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is set decide the fate of the Headmaster of Mfantsipim School after he was asked to step aside for charging unapproved fees.

Public Relations Officer of GES, Reverend Jonathan Bettey, told Citi News that the committee that was set up to conduct the investigations will soon decide on what happens to the Mr. Simpson.

The GES gave this directive in January in a letter which was addressed to the headmaster, J. A. K. Simpson asking him to step aside for investigations into his conduct to begin.

According to that letter, the Central Regional Director of Education would serve as the interim headmaster of the school in the period of the investigation.

The issue of unapproved fees in schools is one that has been around for some time. To combat this, the GES releases the amount of fees to be paid by the schools every term before schools reopen. Any headteacher who is found out to go against the approved amount is sanctioned.

In 2015, 9 headmasters who overcharged the registration fees for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) were demoted to the rank of teachers.
