The newly inaugurated board of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, has promised to devise a strategy that will help them tackle all the challenges that the Single Spine Pay Structure (SSPS) has been facing since its introduction.
The board has been commissioned by the President to oversee all activities of the Commission.
According to the Chairman of the board, Woeli Kemevor, the members of the new board are aware of the nature of the task that has been handed them by the President.

We are also aware of the state of agitations, issuing of ultimatums, threats of strike actions and actual strike actions by some sections of Organised Labour over petitions and claims since the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure began some years ago,” he said.
Mr. Kemevor also promised that the board, under his chairmanship, would do all it can to ensure that the problems that the SSPS faces are dealt with by the commission.
“I pledge to develop comprehensive strategies to proactively respond to the issues and challenges arising from the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy and other related matters; thereby reducing to the barest minimum, the tendency for fire fighting as it were. I wish to assure Ghanaians that we as a board shall work hard to merit the confidence reposed in us by the President.”
As part of its mandate, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is supposed to ensure fair, transparent and systematic implementation of government’s public pay service policy. The commission is also expected to develop and advise government on all matters related to salaries and wages in the country.
