The Institute of Chartered Accountants-Ghana (ICAG) has challenged women in accountancy to rise from obscurity and take up the mantle of leadership.
According to the institute, women in accountancy can hold leadership positions if only they step out and climb up the corporate ladder against the odds.
Delivering a speech at the 26th Graduation and Admission ceremony of the Institute in Accra, President of the institute, Prof. K.B. Omane-Antwi urged women in the industry to challenge themselves with leadership roles in the country.
‘‘Women accountants in Ghana must be empowered to ensure a rise in leadership roles of women in business, industry and every sector of the economy. Not only that, they must rise above inhibiting circumstances so they can get to the top,’’ he said.
The institute, which is the home of accountancy saw 394 qualified graduates pass out for the CA professional program in November last year and thirty one Accounting Technician Scheme of West Africa(ATSWA) who completed the programme in September 2015.
In all, 364 qualified professional accountants were also admitted into ICAG’s membership as part of the ceremony.
Prof. Omane-Antwi also hinted that the institute is running a program with the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) in Monrovia as part of contributing to human capital development across the sub-region.
He further urged them to desist from corruption and help fight the canker in the country.
‘‘Corruption is a thief of opportunities. You as professional accountants now must take concrete efforts to stamp out corruption in the country and Africa’’.
‘‘You newly inducted members are not exempted from making your views known within the context in a bid to stamp out the canker. Chartered accountants who are true to their beliefs and committed to making the world a better place will always be busy and challenged to do more”, he said.
Congratulating the inductees, Prof. Omane-Antwi urged them to give out their best to maintain the credibility of the profession.
