The Greater Accra Regional Police command is set to intensify security checks at Danfaa, a community in the La Nkwantanan District, days after Citi News highlighted some security challenges in the area.

Speaking to journalists during a stakeholder’s interaction tour to the area, Greater Accra regional Police Commander, COP George Akuffo Dampare, indicated that, it would be difficult to assign their patrol and check point personnel to man the police post.

He however noted that the police will devise a strategy to address security challenges there.

[contextly_sidebar id=”LbjhUElJd4jBlQni4DT3U9NX2iQ88mLR”]“Initial information we had which we shared with them is that, our personnel strength to man this station is a challenge in the immediate term; so we should give ourselves some time to organize ourselves to get personnel to handle it. But we don’t want a situation where we stop patrolling and put patrol officers here, where we have to stop the checkpoints we are having and put those checkpoint officers at the station level.”

“…Because strategically and operationally, the patrols and the checkpoints are helping us to deal with the challenges they have in the environment and therefore if we are not getting the additional personnel to immediately operationalize the police station, it will be suicidal from law enforcement point of view” he added.

Background:

Citi News’ Farida Shaibu exposed how a police post built by residents of Danfaa, a peri-urban community located in the La-Nkwantanan District of the Greater Accra  Region, had been abandoned.

The frustrated residents, through an association, put up the police post in the community to help curb criminal activities.

The Chief of the area initiated the process by converting two of his shops into a police post, together with two rooms to serve as accommodation for the police officers.

But the Vice President of the Residents Association complained that for the past seven months since the completion of the project, not a single police officer has been posted there.
