A pro-opposition pressure group, the Truth Forum, has cast serious doubt about President John Mahama’s ability to deliver economic prosperity to the people of Ghana saying the country’s economy has been managed poorly under his leadership.

The group argues that Ghana’s economy presently has a gloomy outlook and it will take more than mere rhetoric from the President to revive it.

[contextly_sidebar id=”gxlEZEjJe09lsMT6IrHfSX8aR3977FrA”]The President in an interview on Volta Star Radio on Thursday morning, said Ghanaians who are not feeling the prosperity in the economy, are not taking advantage of the opportunities his government has created and that as a President, he  doesn’t need to go around to put money in people’s pockets.

Speaking at a news conference today [Thursday], Spokesperson of the Truth Forum, Anthony Karbo, who’s also the NPP’s  Deputy Communications Director, said economic opportunities are non-existent in the country as the President sought to portray.

“I don’t think that in any country where there has been success, the President has gone around putting money into people’s pockets. The President doesn’t have to tell Ghanaians to take advantage of the opportunities. We must experience it ourselves. Inflation is at 19.2%; one of the highest in the country’s history under this government. Our debt to GDP ratio is standing at 73.5% the highest ever in the country’s history. We are talking about interest rate which is at 36%. Which businessman logically can go to the bank to borrow money at such a rate?” He asked.

The truth forum further questioned the President’s appreciation of the current conditions in the country arguing  that his recent comments show that he lacks an understanding of the economic hardship that  the ordinary Ghanaian is facing.

“…So we ask the question if indeed His Excellency the President was referring to Ghana because he might have been referring to Kenya and not Ghana. The economic fundamentals here in Ghana point to a completely different picture and a difficult problem on our hands,” he added.

The Truth Forum is a pro-New Patriotic Party group which seeks to expose what it calls corruption, incompetence, deceit and insensitivity of the John Mahama-led NDC administration.
