The Chairman of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Alhaji Shadad Omar Jallo, has told Citi News he escaped a machete attack on Tuesday night at Community 22 near Ashaiman.

According to Omar Jallo, he was on his way home around 8:00pm when the incident occurred. The party chairman says he is yet to recover from the traumatic experience.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, Alhaji Jallo said on his way home, he saw two motor bikes moving behind him but assumed they were probably party loyalists who were trying to signal him to stop.

According to him, he slowed down to attend to them only for him to realize that three young men had gotten off the motorbike wielding machetes.

“One smashed my car’s windscreen with the machete while the other smashed my bonnet as they approached me behind the steering. Sensing danger I sped off for my life” he narrated.

Alhaji Jallo expressed surprise at the time the attack was carried out saying “I am surprised as early as 8pm in the full glare of approaching vehicles, they could carry out such attack” he intimated.

According to him, he reported the matter to a police station few meters away from the scene.

“The people chased me until I branched to the police checkpoint”.

He said the police chased the suspects but could not arrest them. He said the case has since been lodged with the Ashaiman Lebanon Police Station.

Alhaji Jallo called on the Municipal Assembly to as a matter of urgency fix the street lights at the Community 22 area since it has become a safe haven for criminals.

He also appealed to the party hierarchy to ensure the provision of adequate security for party executives as the elections approaches.
