The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has described as misplaced incessant calls by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a new voters’ register ahead of elections in November.
The NPP and its allied bodies including the Alliance for Accountable Governance and the Let My Vote Count Alliance, have constantly pressurized the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters’ register for the November 7 polls, since in their view, the current one is bloated.
Following the EC’s decision to maintain the current register, those asking for a new register are now requesting for the validation of voters.

The Tamale South legislator who doubles as the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, criticized the opposition party while addressing the Tamale South ward and constituency executives at a strategic meeting on the upcoming limited voters registration exercise scheduled for April 28 to May 8.
He maintained that the Electoral Commission would not kowtow to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) demand for a new register.
He advised the NPP and its allies to rather collaborate with the Electoral Commission to conduct credible elections on November 7.
Haruna Iddrisu admitted that it was necessary to clean the current voters register ahead of the November 7 polls.
He cited multiple registration, registration of minors and foreigners as some electoral malpractices associated with the compilation of a new register for previous elections.
He declared “Operation promise John Mahama your ballot box” as one of the strategies to retain President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the Tamale South MP, President Mahama deserves a second term to accomplish his unfinished changing lives agenda.
He said the second phase of President Mahama’s administration will concentrate on job creation. On the limited voters’ registration exercise, Haruna Iddrisu anticipated a 100,000 voter population in the Tamale South constituency.
He promised to give the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Tamale South a technical knockout on November 7.
