At a passing out ceremony at the Pwalugu Police Training School, Director of the school, ACP Victor Adusah-Poku, admonished the recruits to champion community policing in the communities and proactively alert the police to act urgently.

“Let the community benefit from you, you have been trained on how to interact with community members and know their security concerns. If there are away to work, you should be patrolling on the streets and paths. Often time people go to work only to return and realize that thieves have ransacked their house, those are the roles we want you to play, go there and give the police tip-off whilst you are on patrols” Adusah-Poku stated.

He cautioned them not to arrogate to themselves the powers of the police since there were not police officers’ and desist from extorting monies from drivers on the roads adding that, they should abide by the principles of dos and don’ts  of community policing assistance.

Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Yao Afeku, advised the recruits to eschew all negative tendencies that will bring their personality and that of the police service into disrepute.

He warned that, all recruits will be closely monitored in their line of duty to ensure effective policing and any recruit found culpable of breaching the ethics of the service would be sanctioned accordingly.

The Chief Executive Officer of the YEA, Mr. Kobina Beecham said the programme forms part of President John Mahama’s efforts to achieving goal 16 of the sustainable development goals which focuses on peaceful and inclusive society for all.

“Out of the 829 recruits, 365 of them will be deployed to the Northern region, 313 to the Upper East Region and 151 to the Upper West Region”.

He added that, the recruits will augment the human resource capacity of the police service in providing security and safety in the communities, ensure safety and sanity on the roads and ensure a higher visibility of the police across all communities in Ghana.
