The Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor, has disclosed that the Minister of Finance , Seth Terkper, has taken oversight responsibility of the Power Ministry after Dr. Kwabena Donkor’s resignation.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Z8HRE5QGFwTwPq8K77ZpxHH3ckm5QXmN”]Kwabena Donkor, who is the former Minister of Power, resigned after his promises to end the four year-old power crisis failed to materialize.

It’s been nearly four months since his exit but the President has not announced his replacement.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, Mr. Jinapor revealed that Seth Terkper, the Finance Minister, is managing the Ministry until a substantive Minister is appointed.

He further revealed that Seth Terkper has been very efficient and helpful since he assumed the role.

“The Finance Minister has oversight responsibility over the power sector now and he has been very helpful. Some of the challenges we face too have to do with the financial structuring of the power system and he has been helping us in terms of the financial structuring of the entire  power sector. He has been very good, he has been able to procure gas, crude and virtually paid Nigeria some amount of money for us to stay on course.”

Although power supply has been largely stable since January, there are fears the power deficit may widen again to plunge the country back into another load shedding.
