A private legal practitioner, Nana Obiri Boahen, has hinted of a possible legal action against the Electoral Commission on the role of Superlock Technologies Limited (STL), in the management of Ghana’s electoral process.
Mr. Obiri Boahen says he has received instructions from some persons to initiate a court action that will compel the Electoral Commission to fully explain the role of STL in Ghana’s electoral matters.
The controversy over the role of STL in Ghana’s elections deepened after the Minister of Interior, Prosper Bani, issued a statement in which he claimed the company transmitted tallied results to the EC.

Speaking to Citi News, Nana Boahen, who is also the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said the EC’s silence on the matter is worrying.
“A group of people have approached me as a lawyer to take the matter up and therefore I am not even going to look at it from a political point but from the position of a lawyer. The EC has not made full disclosure to us, they are joking and we are going to drag them to court,” he noted.
Obiri Boahen further explained that although some political parties including the NPP raised concerns about the issue, he said “the impression should not be created that it is only the political parties which are prepared to wage this war of ensuring there is transparent and credible election,” since “some individuals are also doing it.”
The lawyer said he has been instructed by some clients to take up the matter because, “Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan said the EC has no working relationship with STL, but the Minister of Interior in a written statement disclosed that the EC has a working relationship with STL” so they are going to court to seek the truth in the matter.
Declare relationship with STL now
The opposition NPP had earlier called on the Electoral Commission to clarify the kind of relationship it has with STL.
The NPP argues that there is the need for the commission to ensure transparency in the Novembers polls, hence its relationship with the company cannot be a secret affair.
